Dr. Benn Fraker

Animals have been a centerpiece of Dr. Fraker’s life since the beginning, starting with a German

Shepherd mix from day one who was eventually patient enough to teach him how to walk.

Scoshi was the type of dog that was willing to let an infant invade her space beyond all

acceptable levels of polite society. She was kind and aware enough to allow that obnoxious

little kid to frequently grab two fistfuls of her coat and hold on tight. Then she would slowly

stand to cautiously make laps around the living room with a wobbling toddler at her side who

was most certainly removing chunks of hair as they went. Scoshi lived long enough to be in his

memories forever and was most certainly the teacher that first conveyed the lesson of just how

impactful and loving an animal can be in your life.

Dr. Fraker was born and raised in Georgia. He grew up venturing into the mountains at every

opportunity with his family to pursue many of the activities that residents of the Columbia River

Gorge so famously enjoy. He recently relocated here for the unmatched lifestyle and familiarity

of living in a small community. After many visits over the years, he could not be more excited to

finally be able to call the Gorge home. Fun Fact: Dr. Fraker was also an Olympic kayaker!

Dr. Fraker’s professional career with animals began with shoeing horses - one of the main

draws being the ability to bring his dog with him everywhere he went. After a few years, he

realized he wanted to be able to do more and understand more about the complex inner

workings of the animals he was surrounded by on a daily basis. Returning to finish out an

undergraduate degree targeted at gaining acceptance to veterinary school, he graduated from

the University of Tennessee with an Animal Science degree and went straight into the

Veterinary College across the street to join the class of 2022. The rest is history, and, while still

being passionate about working with horses, the appeal of helping animals that may one day

teach someone’s child to walk has taken over the spotlight completely.
